May – July Training for Carers

We have a range of training and information sessions coming up during May, June and July.

We are now holding all of our training sessions for carers face to face. Further on in this newsletter you will also find information about our specialist dementia programme.

May

Autism Awareness

Tuesday 10th May (6pm-8pm) Face to face session at White Swan Centre, Killingworth

Join us for this session which will be delivered by the North East Autistic Society. The session will cover an introduction to autism, sensory differences, emotional wellbeing, communication difficulties and signposting to support.

Emergency First Aid 

Tuesday 24th May (1.30pm – 3pm) Face to face session at Scout HQ, North Shields

Join us for this informal session which will be delivered by the Red Cross. During the session you will cover essential first aid skills, including how to help someone who has a broken bone, is bleeding heavily or having a heart attack or stroke.

Falls Prevention

Tuesday 31st May (1.30pm – 3.30pm) Face to face session at Norham Community College

This informal session will focus on what you can do to prevent a fall, how to make a home fall-proof and how to manage a fall. These sessions will be delivered by North Tyneside Council (Employment & Skills) and there will be a presentation from Care Call about how they can assist.

June

Coping with Caring (5 week programme)

Wednesday 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th June. Face to face session, venue in North Tyneside to be confirmed These sessions are for carers who are supporting someone who has a Mental Health condition. You will learn how to support behaviour change and have an opportunity to meet and share experiences with other carers who understand. We are taking expressions of interest for this programme, please contact us if you would like to know more or add your name to the waiting list.

July

Caring and Me Dates and venue to be confirmed – sessions will be face to face

In a recent survey, over 80% of carers stated that caring had a negative impact on their own health. This session will provide an opportunity for you to take some time out and consider your own needs, so that you feel more able to cope with the demands of your caring role. We are taking expressions of interest for this programme, please contact us if you would like to know more or add your name to the waiting list.

Caring at End of Life Dates and venue to be confirmed – sessions will be face to face

The Carers’ Centre is working in partnership with Marie Curie to deliver a series of sessions to support carers who are caring for someone with a life limiting condition. The aim of these face to face sessions is to help carers to discuss the wishes of the person they care for, helping to break the taboos that surround death and dying including: resilience skills for carers, having difficult end of life conversations, lasting power of attorney and options for care and navigating the system. We are taking expressions of interest for this programme, please contact us if you would like to know more or add your name to the waiting list.

Planning for an Emergency Dates and venue to be confirmed – sessions will be face to face and/or online

Do you worry about what would happen if an emergency should arise and how this will impact on your ability to carry out your caring role? Join us for this session and explore your concerns, identify support available, develop an emergency planning document that could be implemented should a situation arise.
