Step outside and recharge

Carers can easily end up spending lots of time indoors – juggling jobs at home, managing appointments and other day-to-day activities. Spending time inside can lead to people feeling cooped up and overwhelmed.
This week we are encouraging carers to step outside and enjoy some fresh air. Not only is this a cheap way of improving your wellbeing, but it can also help you connect with the wider world.
North Tyneside and the wider North East region are brimming with wonderful nature spots. From a gentle stroll along Whitley Bay’s seafront to enjoying the surprising urban peace of the Rising Sun Country Park or Northumberland Park. Regular visits to beautiful locations like Marden Quarry can help reduce stress, lift your mood, and provide a mental reset.
Naturalist John Burroughs shared:
“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in tune once more.”
Getting outdoors is also a great way to connect with others, especially fellow carers.
Here at North Tyneside Carers’ Centre, we host a monthly Mental Health Carers Walk and Talk group, which includes regular visits to scenic spots such as Tynemouth Longsands beach. The walks are a chance to meet up, enjoy a chat and share advice and tips or even just your experience as a carer with others in the same position.
We have also organised day retreats to Minsteracres, offering carers a chance to unwind and recharge in tranquil surroundings. At our Woodland Wellbeing Day in June, carers will spend a day in a forest, learning skills and discovering things about themselves, specifically designed to help people experience the restorative power of nature first hand.
Hopefully, this blog has given you some ideas to get outside in North Tyneside. If you would like to know more about our upcoming events, visit our events page
