Thank you for standing with young carers

On Young Carers Action Day we came together to recognise the role young carers play every day and to let people in North Tyneside know of the organisations that support them.

Organised by Carers Trust, this year’s theme was ‘Fair Futures for Young Carers,’ a call to ensure every young carer has the same chances to learn, grow and thrive as their peers.

We had an amazing event in the afternoon with a range of organisations – including the Wave Project, North Tyneside Parent Carer Forum, PROPS, Helix Arts, Power Through Sport, and Barnardos.

Thank you to every organisation that took part, shared resources, raised awareness on social media, or simply took the time to learn more about the experiences of young carers.

By getting involved, you helped shine a light on the challenges young carers face and the amazing contributions they make every single day.

We received some wonderful and inspiring messages for young carers from people who attended the event. Here are a few below:

You’re doing amazing, you make your loved ones around you so proud every day for the kindness and help you give. Times will get tough but remember it’s OK, you’re not alone. Never be afraid to talk to someone and ask for help if it’s needed.

What you do matters so much more than what you may realise. The care, patience and strength you show day to day is nothing but extraordinary. The kindness and resilience you show to the loved ones at home makes a real difference so don’t ever forget that.  

Every day, young carers support the people they love in ways that often go unseen. You juggle school, friendships, and your own wellbeing while also taking on responsibilities that many your age never have to think about. Here’s what we want you to know: you matter, and we see you.

At North Tyneside Carers’ Centre, our aim is to make sure young carers are recognised not just for the care they provide, but for who they are as young people.

Young Carers Action Day is one day, but we will keep the conversation and the work going throughout the year.
