Coronavirus (COVID-19) and North Tyneside Carers’ Centre – Wednesday 22nd April

Coronavirus (COVID-19) and North Tyneside Carers’ Centre
Wednesday 22nd April 2020

We recognise and are concerned that the longer lock down goes on, the more carers are struggling. Carers have cancelled care services over fears for the safety of the people they care for contracting the virus, have lost loved ones, are worried what will happen if they become ill and are at the point of exhaustion.

Please pick up the phone and call us on 0191 643 2298 if you are worried, struggling or want to talk someone because you are having a bad day. Our staff are here to help you. Live Chat is also now available on our website.

We have set up a programme of online groups and social activities for young and adult carers to help keep carers connected and give them the opportunity to talk to others and share experiences. We have delivered mindfulness sessions, peer support groups and fun activities. Please follow us on social media or check our website for updated weekly information.

We supported our Young Carers Forum to write to local MP’s after they raised concerns about not being able to access supermarkets during protected hours. North Tyneside Council are supporting with this and are in the process of contacting all major supermarkets and Alan Campbell agreed with the young carers concerns will raise this with the Government as a matter of urgency. We continue to raise the issue of carers accessing personal protective equipment (PPE) locally and nationally and will keep you updated if we make any progress.

In these worrying times, please don’t forget we are here to support you and advocate on your behalf.

Stay safe and stay well
