Coronavirus (COVID-19) and North Tyneside Carers’ Centre – Monday 11th May 2020

Following Boris Johnson’s announcement last night, we recognise that many carers will feel confused and have more questions than answers. Easing lockdown will cause many families heightened anxiety as they care for the most vulnerable people in society. Whilst the death rate is reducing in the hospitals, the death rate in care homes and the community is still concerning.

On Wednesday the Government will release a strategy for easing lockdown measures. We will digest what this information means for carers and update our website. If you wish to receive regular updates, please click the social media icons at the bottom of the page to follow us.

The Government has now included unpaid carers in its list of essential workers and those prioritised for Covid 19 testing in England. You can find out more at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested

Please pick up the phone and call us on 0191 643 2298 or access Live Chat on our website, if you would like further information or need support to access a test. Our staff are here to help you.

We are also still delivering a range of services and can offer you one to one support and access to online support groups and social activities for young and adult carers. Many carers are feeling increasingly isolated during lockdown – our groups will give you the opportunity to talk to others in a similar situation and share experiences.

“The Carers’ Centre has been like the back bone for carers, the support has been a massive help and I no longer feel like I am floundering…….. The regular calls during this (lockdown) have really helped”

In these difficult and worrying times, please don’t forget we are here to support you. We understand that the longer this goes on the harder it is for carers.

Stay safe and stay well
