Shine a light on hidden heroes

In recent weeks, headlines have shone a spotlight on the three million working carers in the UK, an “invisible army” balancing paid jobs with the relentless demands of unpaid care.
The figures are stark: every day, around 600 people quit their jobs to care full-time, while almost half of carers report their own health has worsened because of the pressure.
These aren’t just statistics. Behind them are real people – parents, partners, children, neighbours, all quietly keeping households and communities afloat. And yet too often, their contribution goes unseen.
A report from Carers Week 2025 revealed just how widespread and deeply felt caring responsibilities are.
The research finds that over a fifth of people (22%) are currently providing unpaid care, and 46% of people have provided care at some point – either now or in the past. As a result, it is estimated there are 11.9 million people currently providing unpaid care in the UK, and 24.9 million people who have provided unpaid care at some point in their lives.
That’s why our Celebrating Carers campaign matters now more than ever. It’s a chance to bring those stories to light, recognise the resilience of carers, and remind them that what they do every day truly makes a difference.
Who do you know who deserves a moment of recognition?
Whether they’re supporting an elderly parent, helping a sibling with illness, or providing emotional care behind the scenes, they matter and we want to hear about them.
To nominate someone:
Send us an email and include:
- The carer’s name (first name + role, or anonymous if preferred)
- A few heartfelt words about why they inspire you
- A photo (optional—but powerful when sharing recognition publicly)
Send it to enquiries@ntcarers.co.uk
We’ll feature these stories on our website and social media. Every story amplifies carers’ experiences, reminds communities of their vital contribution, and reinforces that carers are valued.
