Carers Week in North Tyneside

One week to go – what you need to know about Carers Week 2025

Carers Week 2025 is just around the corner and we’ve got a fantastic line-up of events and activities to celebrate and support our local carers from next Monday (9 June).

This year’s theme is “Caring About Equality”, shining a spotlight on unpaid carers and the challenges they face. It’s a chance to raise awareness, amplify carers’ voices, and come together as a community to show our appreciation.

Whether you’re an unpaid carer, a supporter, or an organisation looking to get involved, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a preview of what we’ve got planned.

Monday 9 June

Health & wellbeing drop-in clinics

Got a question about your caring role? Good news, we have lined up some professionals to talk to you. There will be a drop in clinic with North Tyneside Carers’ Centre Wellbeing Workers and North Tyneside Council Social Workers for information on local support and services. Pop in from 10am to 3pm at North Shields Library and the Oxford Centre.

Working for Carers webinar

We are also highlighting the benefits of employing carers in our Working for Carers webinar. You will hear real-life stories from carers and local organisations and find out about the Working for Carers project and how we support employers and carers. Join online from 12.30pm to 1.15pm. This webinar is aimed at employers. To book click here.

DIY banner making workshop

Get creative at our DIY banner-making workshop and learn all about the history of banner making. You’ll go home with your own decorative banner. 1.30pm – 4pm in Wallsend Library, Illustrious Room

Tuesday 10 June

Benefits & financial wellbeing drop-in

Come along for expert advice on benefits, energy support, and more from our Carer Money Matters team. No appointments needed – just drop in anytime from 10am to 2pm at the John Willie Sams Centre, Dudley

Caring About Equality Professionals webinar

We will host a powerful lunch and learn session from 12pm to 1pm for people who work with carers. It will explore the inequalities carers face as a result of their responsibilities including financial hardship and poorer health outcomes and help you to understand what you can do to help.

Wednesday 11 June

Carers Conference

The highlight of the week will be a Carers Conference at the Linskill Centre in North Shields on Wednesday – involving a number of organisations including Age UK, HealthWatch, Tyne & Wear Fire Service, PROPS, and Working Well. From 10am to 3pm there will be sessions on education and employment, Power of Attorney and wills, wellbeing and resilience – as well as information stalls from local support organisations and activities throughout the day. Anyone with caring responsibilities is welcome to join.

Friday 13 June

Coast and Toast

End the week with fresh air, friendly faces, and a cuppa. Join our gentle walk from Tynemouth Priory, followed by refreshments at Twelve25 café and a visit to the Old Low Light Heritage Centre. Book a place. Join us from 9am to 12.30pm.

How can you support?

Our aim this Carers Week is to make sure every unpaid carer in North Tyneside knows they are seen, valued and supported and that they are not alone.

That’s why it will help us if you come and join our events, share our social media content and even post some pictures of your own if you attend any of our sessions using #CarersWeek2025. Reach out to a carer you know and let them know they’re appreciated – and show them this blog so they can find out more about what’s happening during Carers Week.

If you know someone who has caring responsibilities, encourage them to get in touch with us. Support is always available.
