Continuing our employment support for carers
We are pleased to announce that our Working for Carers project has secured funding to continue supporting unpaid carers across North Tyneside, Newcastle and Northumberland, into work.
Are you, or someone you work with, an unpaid carer?
We understand that trying to find a balance between looking after someone, and your job, can be really difficult.
You might be feeling overwhelmed and exhausted due to your caring responsibilities, and you may feel like your employer or manager doesn’t understand. The Working for Carers project supports carers aged 16+ throughout their employment and educational journey.
This includes anyone who hasn’t worked for a long time, has recently had to stop work because of their caring role, carers who have never worked, and those who are in employment.
We also offer specialist support for finding and maintaining educational opportunities, training and volunteering roles, and apprenticeships.
Our team of advisors offer one-to-one, non-judgemental, free, and specialist support to help you:
- Maintain your current role and overcome any workplace barriers.
- Search for your first, or a new, job role.
- Access training opportunities, educational courses, or volunteering roles.
- Find work experience opportunities, apprenticeships, and paid roles.
- Improve your employability skills – such as digital literacy.
- Develop your interview skills and practice mock interviews.
- Identify your transferrable skill set to pursue employment goals and opportunities.
- Prepare and craft CVs and cover letters.
- Write university applications and personal statements.
- Build your confidence levels.
- Understand your rights as a carer in the workplace.
The Working for Carers project will also continue to support employers and organisations across North Tyneside, Newcastle and Northumberland.
Our Employer Engagement Officer will work with professionals to create carer-friendly workplaces (including implementing the Carer’s Leave Act 2023 and the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023).
This support also includes helping organisations to understand carers’ needs, support carers returning to work, and identify opportunities to improve roles in your organisation for unpaid carers.
