5 simple ways businesses can support carers

Having a real impact starts with small, practical actions. Whether you’re a small local business or a larger company, there are easy things you can do to make a real difference in North Tyneside.

This week we are sharing some simple ways your business can make a difference to the lives of carers.

1. Take on a simple fundraising challenge

This doesn’t have to be complicated. There are a lot of fun challenges out there that can bring teams together while supporting a good cause. Some ideas could include a sponsored walk, run or cycle, themed office days, a cake and coffee morning, a steps challenge between teams or even a raffle or prize draw.

2. Make a donation – big or small

Some ideas for donations could be a one off business donation, matching employee fundraising contributions, supporting a specific event or providing in-kind support such as supplies, equipment or services. Every contribution helps us to continue our work to improve the lives of carers. Recently, staff at our local ASDA bought tea, coffee and biscuits for our young adult carers group and it was much appreciated.

3. Sponsor an event or initiative

Event sponsorship is a straightforward and visible way to support a charity and it doesn’t have to require a major financial commitment. Some ways to get involved include sponsoring an event held on behalf of carers, or a campaign, providing refreshments, printing or venue support, donating prizes for raffles or competitions or even co-hosting a small event with us.

4. Share your skills

Your team’s knowledge can be just as valuable as financial support. Skill sharing is often one of the most impactful and overlooked ways businesses can help charities. This could be expertise that could benefit our carers – anything from wellbeing to practical help. We operate with limited resources and so professional skills can help boost our offer for carers.

5. Be part of the team

Supporting a charity can be a great way to engage and motivate employees. Giving staff simple opportunities to participate builds purpose, teamwork, and pride. This could be offering volunteering days, supporting fundraising ideas or even promoting our work internally – especially during key moments like Carers Week, Carers’ Rights Day etc. Small actions help create a culture of giving within your organisation.

A single fundraiser, a modest donation, a shared skill, or a sponsored event can help us to reach more people, deliver vital services, and training sessions that make a real difference.
