Support for Carers in Employment
In addition to the one to one support the Centre provides, if you are a working carer we will support you to:
- Understand your rights as a carer in employment
- Explore options to remain in employment
- Request flexible working
- Have your voice heard with employers
- Manage working, your caring role and your own wellbeing
North Tyneside Carers' Centre is currently one of nine pilot sites delivering on a national Carers' in Employment project. The project aims to address some of the issues faced by working carers by working with targeted, local employers to provide information, advice and practical support to their employees.
Through information sessions in the workplace and the development of support networks, the pilot will help employers to understand carers’ rights and will help supervisors and managers to explore ways in which they can support staff with caring responsibilities.
We are currently working with the following employers:
- North Tyneside Council, including their partners ENGIE, Kier and Capita
- Northumbria Health Care Trust
If you are a carer and you are employed by one of the above companies, please get in touch and we can advise you when your next information session will be held.
Currently neogtiations are taking place with other local employers and further developments will be announced in due course.
If you are a carer in employment and require support, please contact the Centre on (0191) 643 2298.
We are keen to get feedback from carers and employers who have taken part in the Carers in Employment Pilot Project. We have devised short questionnaire and would be grateful if carers and employers could take the time to complete them. The answers will be used to help us understand what is helpful to carers and employers and will shape our service in the future.
Your answers to the questions are important to us as they indicate the value of the project to carers.
For Young adult carers:
We would like to know about how we can help you with your transition into work, training or further education.
